     Social Media Contest Boosts Rita's Italian Ice
    Offering promotional products and free cold treats is a great way to make new friends. That's a lesson Rita's Franchise Company, the Trevose, PA-based operator of the popular Italian ice and custard shops, learned during a recent Facebook campaign – doubling its fans in two weeks and driving traffic to its 500-plus locations.
     
     Interactive Magnets Stick for Restaurateur
    When the owners of Pinebrook, NJ-based Italian eatery Suppa's Restaurant looked to get more customers coming into the restaurant, they decided to go for emotional appeal. Reaching out to The Mood Swinger, a supplier of customized magnets, they developed a special "mood magnet" featuring four humorous illustrations of "satisfied" and "hungry" cartoon faces.
     
     Results No One Can Trash
    For one of its clients, Complete Marketing Systems redefined the term "junk mail." The specialty marketing company sent out 2,000 miniature plastic trash cans late last year to a list of insurance agency owners to help drive recipients to sign up for a leadership seminar hosted by the client.
     
     Decoding Customer Engagement
    One of the advantages unique to direct mail is that it gets something into the recipient's hands, encouraging them to take action. The leadership at American Car Care Centers (ACCC) had this in mind when they ran a campaign to help drive donations for their charity partner, the Children's Miracle Network, while also boosting foot traffic to their 1,000 stores nationwide.
